We spent 3 days with Gary and his lovely family in Yuangshuo.
He picked us up in Guilin directly from our hotel and we went straight to the rice terraces. It's a shame the weather was extremely misty but we managed to see a very little bit of them.
Gary was very nice, smiley, we chatted a lot about many different things along the way, including bamboos (my passion) and Chinese culture/history. He made it a very nice day. We then drove off to his charming BandB outside Yanshuo.
The garden has a wonderful view on Chinese mountains, Gary's family is adorable and they made us feel very welcome. The effort put into breakfast, the freshly cut fruits, the warm Chinese tea really prepared us for another good day!
The second day we cycled around the River Li area. Many great spots for pictures. Beautiful area with better weather. We had lunch over there and later went to Yangshuo village for dinner. Again, we had a lovely time as Yangshuo is more traditional than the rest of the cities we had visited in our trip.
The last day we saw the kumquat plantations and as usual, Gary took us to breathtaking viewpoints on the way to Guilin train station.
The tailor-made trip was perfect, even with the thick mist. Very active 3 days, yet a very relaxing place.
Gary and his wife speak English perfectly and are extremely friendly and helpful.

Be prepared for a lot of walking and biking but it;s well worth it. The prices are OK for us working in Switzerland, but Gary's friendliness is priceless!

Our family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers were in Yangshuo for 2 days and 3 night and wanted to maximize our trip there. We contact Gary, who customized an itinerary for us that included one day of hiking and one day of biking, which incorporated all of the major sights we were interested in. He pre-arranged everything for us, including bike rentals, car/driver arrangements, raft negotiations, and tickets at sights, which made everything incredibly easy - everyone who's been to China knows how much hassle it is to negotiate with venders! Gary is also full of local knowledge, and took us through lots of beautiful countrysides where you won't see another tourist but still can spot those famous sights. Much appreciated since sightseeing can get very chaotic and not tranquil at all in China.

What was most appreciated though, was how incredibly respectful and polite Gary was. Being a cross-racial family, we some times get some rude and pointed questions from locals in China. Every time that happened, Gary very nicely deflected the questions. He even makes a point to refer to us as "wai guo peng yo" - foreign friends - rather than the more common and a little rude "lao wai" to the locals that addressed us as such.

We also ran into issues with our hotel reservations. I called Gary in a panic before we got to Yangshuo and he immediately came up with recommendations and eased my mind. I really believe that Gary was the reason that the trip was as stress-free as it was! Couldn't recommend him more highly if you need a tour guide in Yangshuo!

Right from the first email contact Gary & Sophia were fabulous. Their English was great and it was so easy to communicate with them both. We spent 3 days with Gary which included exploring Yanghuo countryside on bicyles, rafting on the Li & Yulong Rivers, hiking up Moon Hill, visiting food markets and a stone village to name a few. Nothing was too much trouble for Gary and he was full of information and history about everything we saw. Gary was honest, helpful, flexible, patient and basically a real gentleman. We were also fortunate to meet Sophia, his lovely girls and father. Yangshuo was certainly a highlight of our trip to China thanks to Gary and Sophia. 10 out of 10 recommendation from us, thanks Dianne & David, NSW Australia

We booked a three day tour staying at their hotel in yangshou and because we arrived late at night to Guilin, we decided to stay the night there. Then the next morning Gary should have picked us up at 8 am, at 9:30 he was not there so we called him and he told as that he FORGOT about us, he asked us to wait for two and a half hours so he could arrive but after 3 and a half hours he still did not show up and we decided to cancel. Very unprofessional, specially taking into account that winwin tour was four times more expensive than the one we were finally offered at our Guilin hotel.

Yangshuo with WinWin Travel.
We were referred to WinWin Travel by my brother who lives in China and raves about them. We checked them out on Trip Advisor referrals and these compliments were confirmed. We were so impressed from the beginning when we made contact by email. Gary and Sophie, husband and wife and founders of WinWin Travel, were very prompt with replies to emails and patient with our questions. For 3 days, they were the personal tour guides for our family of 5. They organized a range of activities with meticulous precision at very reasonablemprices. The highlight, besides the wonderful cycling, bamboo rafting, visiting rural villages, cormorant fishing, caves, local markets, incredible Light Show, was making dumplings at their home with their 3 gorgeous children and eating them! Best dumplings we ever tasted! On top of all this, Gary and Sophia are the most delightful people to spend time with. We highly recommend WinWin Travels for getting around Yangshuo.

I took an all day tour with Gary and it was great. We started at 6am from Yangshuo and saw the rice terraces and minority village then ended the day cruising the Li River. So much to see. He was a great guide and really made the trip enjoyable. It was a perfect day.

Simply put, Gary and Sophia are wonderful in every respect.

From the first email exchange long before our trip, to our hugs goodbye at the airport, everything was perfect. They are warm, considerate and charming. They speak and write English really well. They have fun senses of humor. They love what they do. And all this made them a treat to spend time with.

Here are just a few examples of why we loved our time with them....

- Being greeted at the airport by Gary's warm smile;
- Feeling totally at ease with Gary and Sophia from the moment we met;
- Seeing how Gary and Sophia keyed in on the things my wife and I enjoy doing, and tailoring every minute of everyday accordingly;
- Visiting places that were a bit off the beaten track, and probably less touristy and more interesting than the things most others might do;
- Having long, engaging conversations about their families, their upbringing, their country and more;
- Visiting their home, where we spent time with their 3 adorable young daughters, and feasted on a wonderful home cooked, authentic dinner.

We are so glad we found Gary and Sophia, and spent our 5 days in Yangshou with them.

Hi all - recently returned from a great tour of China - and wanted to recommend some new friends of mine who are running a little family based tour guide company in Yangshuo near Guilin.

They really did make a very positive impact on my tour of China.
I think I was a tiny bit nervous of that great big (largely non-english speaking) country before I met Gary and Sophia of WinWin Travels - but after spending some days on tour with them I felt so much at ease and ended up spending 3x the time I had originally planned in Yangshuo.
It really is a lovely place - and studying Chinese and Chinese culture with Gary by the Li River is something not to be missed!

Check them out, they're WinWin Travels of Yangshuo - have a google!
